East Leeds Federation
Eleven GP surgeries joined together to identify their local patient needs. They believed healthy living and physical activity were a huge requirement for the east of Leeds, especially for those with chronic illnesses.
Healthy Lifestyle Services put together a project involving patient consultations, gyms in surgeries, free fitness sessions and patient support groups to help support those patients with chronic illness such as arthritis, diabetes and many others. The project was approved by the East Leeds CCG and funding was supplied to the practices to implement the project. This was a two year project that commenced in 2016. After a short time the results were extremely positive.
‘’I feel fantastic! My husband says I am smashing it! I have been out walking nearly every day and have even started jogging. I love the Latin classes provided by the service and have already lost 12lbs in just three weeks. I could have done with this years ago!’’
Jill Lynn, Gibson Lane Health Centre, Kippax
‘’I have kept up to my weekly training programme put together by Claire. I’m feeling really positive having lost nearly a stone in just a couple of weeks. The circuit sessions have helped and motivated me to join the gym. Thanks for referring me Andrea!’’
Ann-Marie Shannon, Colton Mill Medical Centre

Leeds Girls Can Campaign
We were approached by Sport England to provide fitness sessions for woman and girls aged between 14-25 years in the Leeds and Castleford area. There was a realisation that women within this age bracket were not physically active. We put together Mums and Tots Fitness classes, Ladies only running groups and BurleX Fitness sessions. The project was a huge success with two of the three groups now self sustained and still running.
“I never believed I could run. I am now running 6 miles and have signed up for a half marathon. It’s amazing what you can do with a bit of support and encouragement. Thanks Claire”
